Greetings, in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! You are invited into all of the worship, growth and service opportunities of First United Methodist Church during the upcoming Advent and Christmas seasons. Below, you will find details about many ways you can get involved in ministry and missions to help you prepare for this to be one of the most memorable Advent experiences ever. Our hope and prayer is that this season will be a time for you to have Christ born again in your heart and life.
The season of Advent, which comes from the Latin word adventus meaning “coming” or “visit,” begins four Sundays before Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Advent is the beginning of the liturgical year for Christians. (Liturgical -- from liturgy, means the forms and functions of public worship.) During Advent, we prepare for, and anticipate, the coming of Christ. We remember the longing of Jews for a Messiah and our own longing for, and need of, forgiveness, salvation and a new beginning.
There are so many ways in which you and I may offer our testimony of God’s work in our lives by the way we love our neighbor and share the light of Christ.
My prayer for you is that this Advent season will be a new beginning in your life as you engage in the many ministry and mission opportunities and learn about the many ways you can transform the world. Invite a friend to join in the journey with you!
Thank you for your faith, hope, and love.
