LENT 2019

Dear Easter People,

You are invited to join with us at FUMC during this transformational season of Lent as we journey together to the victory of Easter!

Beginning on Ash Wednesday, the Christian Church will enter into the season of Lent. The forty-six days of Lent are meant to be a time of intense introspection, reorientation, prayer, fasting and learning more about ourselves and God. Our theme this year is “Out of Dust,” as we consider how we were formed in God’s image out of the dust of the earth and return to dust at the end of this earthly journey. The question for us to ponder during this engaging season is what comes in between those two times. How are we living out our lives as faithful, resurrection people?

My prayer is that God’s grace and presence will guide, sustain and motivate us to become all that we can be and serve Him every day with clean hearts and renewed spirits!

God bless,

Pastor Tony

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS DURING LENT

The season of Lent is about reorienting our lives towards God and as we live this out, we are inviting you to join us for opportunities to pray, fast, worship and fellowship. Each Wednesday during Lent, we encourage you to fast from lunch and then join us in the sanctuary from 5:30-6:15 for times of interactive prayer and worship. During these times, we will be praying and worshiping while also utilizing prayer stations that include interactive prayer activities to enhance our connection with God and each other. Following the gatherings, we will break our fast together with wonderful dinners in the fellowship hall from 6:15-7pm. All are invited and encouraged to participate. Children’s activities will be from 5:30-6:15.

Schedule of Events

Palm sunday services

April 14th in all three of the worship services: 8:30 and 11 am. These powerful services begin with splendor and joy as we reenact Christ’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem by waving palms and proclaiming “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

Maundy Thursday Service

April 18th at 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary. Maundy is an old English word that is derived from the Latin mandatum meaning “mandate”. At this service, we will hear Jesus’ mandate from the Gospel of John: “A new commandment I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” We will commemorate the Last Supper by sharing in Holy Communion, which further binds us in love as a community.

Good Friday service

April 19th at 6:00 pm. A Tenebrae service is one the oldest traditions of the Christian Church in celebration of Holy Week. From the Latin word meaning shadows, the service of Tenebrae presents the story of Jesus’ passion, and as it unfolds, the symbolic candles are extinguished and the worship space is darkened to remember the death of our Lord. The service will be held in the fellowship hall and the music will be led by our Well Worship team.

Easter Egg Hunt

April 20th from 2:00-4:00 pm. Mark your calendars now so that you won’t miss out on this Easter celebration!! Easter Egg Hunt, games, and activities for all ages! All activities will be held on the grass lot across 4th Street from the church (next to the Bell House.)

Easter sunday services

April 21st. Worship in all three services: Traditional at 8:30 and 11:00 am and Contemporary at 11:00am. Christ is risen! Alleluia! Join us to worship and celebrate the resurrection of our Lord at any of three triumphant services. There will also be a breakfast offered for everyone at 9:45am in the fellowship hall!
